Play-Based Instruction
Preston Hollow Presbyterian PreK uses a play-based instructional model where we focus on the cognitive, social, emotional, physical, and spiritual development of each child. Using hands-on learning approach allows students the opportunity to be creative and expressive in the learning environment to support the early childhood developmental needs.
-
Exploratory Centers
The PreK classrooms use exploratory centers which include: Imaginative play, library, open-ended art, science, music and movement, fine motor manipulatives, and gross motor activities. This is also a time where teachers can do small group instruction to support each child’s learning needs.
-
Early Literacy Skills
PreK focuses on early literacy skills, which includes language development. The students engage in activities that reinforce group read-alouds, music, and circle-time activities. Learning Without Tears curriculum is a core component of our program. It provides age-appropriate pre-writing, pre-reading, and pre-math kindergarten readiness skills.

Social & Emotional Learning
The foundation of PreK is social and emotional learning. Helping early childhood students learn how to communicate what they are feeling is a valuable life skill. Our PreK creates daily opportunities to teach sharing, listening skills, and conflict resolution. Our goal is to build the self-esteem and spiritual awareness of each Preston Hollow child in an environment that stimulates a child’s awareness of the world around them.
